River Wid

Fished the bottom stretch of river Wid on Saturday 23rd September. Loads of minnows and gudgeon with two small perch that fell to red maggots until a jack pike became troublesome. I persisted into late afternoon and was rewarded by 3 chub. Largest just under 2lbs.  Note following summer thunderstorms there is a heavy snag now exposed in the centre/bottom of the weir pool rendering feeder fishing difficult.

River Wid

Monday 10th July 2017

I spent two hours this late afternoon fishing the roots swim (just upstream from the blue bridge).  The river was low and clear with little flow but this swim always produces, as it holds deep water by the undercut far bank.  Feeder fishing red maggot takes a few casts to put off the minnows until the dace arrive.  Chublets and a small gudgeon were also caught.  On upping the feed and putting three casters on the hook (hoping for the big roach that reside) the tip wrapped around and this bigger chub (1.5lbs+) was pulling for the undercut.

A kingfisher streaked past and a squirrel climbed down the roots to take a drink from the surface of the water.

Now the farmer has cut the hay fields and my new bailiff - Barry Stringer has been busy cutting out swims -  the banks are relatively accessible at this venue.  Please forward your catch returns and availability for next work party (weekend 28/29th October) to me Peter Yates fishery officer on 07465429877

Ray had his best ever freshwater fish from Straits Mill, a 23lb Carp out of the big lake
I think the smile says it all, new to the club this year and helping out at Straits with some of the work

Pic 2
Dave Wilson and I had a cracking day on the small lake at Straits Mill with lots of  Bream to about 4/5Lb
But the highlight was a Tench each from the stocking the club is making. Its good when a plan comes together.

Windmill lakes

Went fishing yesterday at Long Lake. Not been there before so I spent half an hour walking around and found some of the fish along one bank. Decided to set up on opposite bank so that it would be safer (keeping the fish out of the 'snags'). 1st cast and 15 minutes later 17lb 5oz. With the sun being hot, the carp were soon feeding on the surface. A beautiful fully scaled mirror (11lb 4oz) was followed by two more commons (21lb 10oz and 20lb 2oz). Lovely location; I was the only person on the lake.

Bicknacre

Please find attached pictures from a 4 hour session Friday 19th of may. - it was a very wet day,
In a short 5 hour session over Jacklets farm - Bicknacre - I had a 21lb mirror carp, 16lb common, 15lb mirror carp, 2x  10lb caught at the same time one from each rod, (pictures below) I also had a seven lb carp and a 5lb carp and 8 bream - it was incredible over there the rain must have really got the fish feeding.
