Laundry Lake

30/03/11, Following a cold start I had a nice run which resulted in this lovely 11LB Mirror Carp, the day turned cold and wet and it was the only fish I saw caught that day. A great way to end the 2010/11 season now I can’t wait till the season opens again and I can go hunting her bigger mate.

Straits Mill

After this first cold spell of the winter I thought I would give other members who may have to travel a distance an update on Straits Mill

Both of the lakes are still frozen over to quite a thickness, and look to remain so for some time ice is right to the edge. Some idiot has been throwing the logs that are scattered around the lakes onto the ice I imagine to try to break the ice, someone has to clear this up and I don’t suppose we will see this person at the working parties, a sledge hammer head tied to a piece of rope works for me if that doesn’t work fish the river

Today 1st has seen the river drop a foot after being up from the melting snow still holding some colour so should be good to fish Sunday / Monday, looks to be small roach and dace at the moment

Southminster

Went to southminster 30th December 2010, yes last year of course. As straights mill all pits frozen to a fair thickness. It will take a while for these to thaw and yes someone has thrown lots of tree branches on the pits to try and break the ice. Obviously this did not work. Hopefully the pits and lakes thaw soon so we can get out before season end.

Armigers

Family fishing day on the 2nd October.  We had not been to these lakes before and fished the lake nearest the car park.  My wife and I fished a double swim.  I caught carp steadily all day using floating dog biscuits.  After a slow start my wife caught plenty using sweetcorn as her hook bait and using maize as "free offerings".  However our son in the adjacent swim fared even better, catching in excess of 110 lb of carp, average size being around 4 lb with a 10 lb 4 just before we went home.  This is the fish in the attached picture. He too used floating dog biscuits, fishing the margins.  Although it felt like we were fishing at the end of the runway at nearby Stansted airport, we had a thoroughly good day - plenty of fish caught and all in tip top condition.

Rectory Ponds

I fished in a match at rectory and came 4th. But after the match I stayed at the lake for about 1 hour and just as I was about to pack up and go I hit into this lovely 12lb mirror. When I hooked it, it didn't even know it had been hooked and it went straight into the landing net and that made my day.

Dodds Farm

I am enclosing some photo`s from our day ( sunday ) at Dodds Farm. Like most of the BDAC waters we found it very clean and tidy. We fished the far lake, which was really good. The fishing in general was really good. We are not carp anglers as such, and prefer to fish for roach/rudd/ tench/ bream etc. But we managed 4 carp, ( best 16lb ) and lots of roach and rudd to about 1lb

Laundry Lake

Catch Report – Laundry Lake Sunday 1st August 2010

I arrived at Laundry lake shortly before 5pm on 1st August 2010 for a short session.  It was fairly warm and overcast with a gentle breeze and plenty of carp on the surface, so I was hopeful of some action.  Unlike most anglers at this venue who tend to ledger, I decided to float fish about 6 rod lengths out with a heavy loaded waggler, varying at between 3 and 5 feet deep.  Experience has taught me that the smaller 6mm pellets fished on a band tend to work well.  In just over 3 hours I had a number of bites and 4 fish – mirrors of 11lb 8oz, 15lb and 15lb 12oz and a common of 15lb 8oz – not bad for a short session.  All of the fish were in top condition and fought very hard.

Laundry lake is looking lovely at present, it’s good to see another family of baby ducks have arrived and a superb job has been done with fixing the gate and the new car park.  I will definitely be back soon.

Laundry Lake

26th July 2010

It was my first visit to Laundry Lake and only a few other members were fishing.  Weather wasn't too great with light rain in the morning and again later in the afternoon. The water was very warm and flies were hatching.  Others were saying that the fishing was very hard for this lake and my 11lb 14oz mirror at about 10.30 a.m. was the only fish seen until about 4 o'clock when more fish started come come to the bank.  I finished with 4 fish and I think there were no more than that between the others.  All my fish came on hair rigged sweetcorn with a cage feeder with a mix of halibut groundbait, pellets, hemp and sweetcorn cast every 20 minutes or so.  I tried a variety of methods with my 2nd rod but had no bites at all.  I felt sorry for Bob on the adjacent swim who fished all day for one bite, and that came off after a short fight!  His help in landing my fish was much appreciated.

Straits Mill

Just an update on Straits Mill, I fished the small lake on a number of occasions since the start of the season looking for the Tench best fish 6lb followed by Bream of 4lb so no monsters but good fun.

The weed is not a problem if you take a rake this certainly encourages the fish on this lake don’t make them any easier to hook though

Loads of small Rudd that you have to try to avoid but the Pike are slowly working there way through them, best Pike so far 12lb.

Whilst walking the back of the small lake, I saw the largest Grass snake that I have ever seen beautiful animal in excess of 4ft long, thicker than the end of a snooker cue. Lots of snake’s on this this complex all Grass so far.

I have spoken to a number of new members the overriding comments are the how clean and tidy the lake’s are and how pleasant the large lake is with the mature trees and accessible swims. Lets hope we see them at the working parties.

The picture is of a 10 lb carp I had on my last trip

Thoby Wood

I was fishing at Toby mere the weekend when this rather unexpected bird landed on my rods. I had my camera handy so took a few photos its not often a Budgie is sighted outside of a cage. I only hope the bird survives as it was extremely tame staying around my swim for some time.

You will notice by the photos that the blanket weed has been growing at an alarming rate proving difficult to release the fish (I caught 5 Bream the biggest being 6.7 Llb) this weed was around the entire lake affecting every swim.

This is the first time I have fished this lake & I really do like the venue.
