Armigers - 14th Feb 2016

Given the sunny but cold weather I visited Armigers lakes last Sunday for a short afternoon session. Fishing the bottom lake with a simple leger rig with banded pellets I managed around 20 carp and one lovely rudd close to a pound. A few carp were even feeding off of the top. A lovely afternoon and I only packed up as my feet were going numb at the end!

Southminster 20-02-2016

I had a short window in my weekend for a four hour quick session over on pit 6. Set up in the 'Rat swim' and cast out two rods, one on a zig to the far marginal reed bed and a bottom bait mid way out. The zig ripped off an hour later with this little common and shortly after, the other rod beeped twice and there was a decent sized skimmer bream on the line. Lost another fish on the zigs, then had to pack up.

Laundry lake

Went fishing on Monday 18th of January with a mate on laundry lake.
Got the rods out within the hour of arriving with a single hook bait and about 8 in a pva bag and just chucked it out about 60yrds from the dam bank and about 45 mins later it rocks off and landed this little common weighing in at 14lb 4oz.
Unfortunately it was the only fish but it was a shock as I've never had any out before 15:30.
Tightlines guys.

Straits Mill

My first ever session on one on bdac waters (straits mill) was amazing, fished from the point using single pop-up hookbaits on a combi-rig and had two fish within half hour first one was a 23lb 5oz common and the second was a mirror weighing 15lb 7oz

Parsonage Farm

As the weather forecast was dry and sunny I took a trip down to Parsonage Farm, arriving around 9.30am. I fished roughly half way down on the near side bank, using the pole at between 6 and 8 metres. I landed 8 nice tench to 4 lb on soft hooked pellets along with a few small silver fish. Altogether a pleasant few hours fishing in the warm sunshine at one of the club's most relaxing fisheries.

Long lake 23-10-15
Arrived 11.30am and fished until 3.45pm. Fishing on maggot for roach. Very slow but landed a 1lb 8oz perch and then, an hour later, a 2lb 2oz perch. No photos but catch confirmed by the only other angler as I had to borrow his scales.

Dodd’s Farm 18/10/15

First time here this season and arrived at 1pm to find the place deserted. Water a bit low but fished well and I got these 3 lovely Commons at 13-7, 21-6 and 22-0 all taken float fishing in the margin. Also pulled off one just as it was getting dark.

Hick’s Farm 30/09/15

Now that the evenings are drawing in, I only had two and a half hour window before the sun went down. Got set up around 4:30pm and fished my Zomb adjustable zig rig, with a chopped down Munch Baits pop up. This was fished under my custom made rising ground bait, a few inches under the surface. It wasn’t long before the fish came in and feeding well in the upper layers. Eight fish in all, roughly around the 3 ~ 9lbs mark. Great fun on the zig and a great method in the late autumn sun. I packed up with one other angler just after 7pm.

Rectory Ponds

I popped over to the Rectory Ponds last Wednesday for a short evening session. Arriving at 4pm I decided to sit in the warm sunshine on the first lake just down the slope from the car park facing the island. The water is deeper here and I fished small pellets on the carp pole close in. I landed ten carp to 9lb plus a few roach and packed up around 7pm once the temperature dropped. A lovely evening and I had the place to myself.

Bicknacre

Thursday September 10th.    Another fine morning amongst the silver fish at Jackletts Farm at Bicknacre. The silver fish are growing very well on a high protein diet courtesy of Mr Carpman. Simple waggler maggot and sweetcorn tactics a rod length out in very good early conditions on the car park side. The water had a nice colour to it and the roach obliged from the off. Nothing over 12oz but all quality and in great shape. If only we still had a size limit regime, I would have cleaned up. Who remembers size limits? As the morning progressed the wind increased and the roach vanished to be replaced with tiny perch and rudd. Time to go. I ended up just shy of 19lbs of roach and rudd along with a couple of skimmer bream, the first I have ever caught on this lake, and a sore back. Not bad for 4 hours fishing.  John Nightingale.

Asheldam/Southminster 05/09/15

A bit of an odd day, but decided to pop over Asheldam for a look around at 1:30pm and ended up putting two rods out for a couple of hours! No bites at all, so I packed up and drove round the corner to Southminster and got into a decent swim on pit 6. Despite the car park being rammed, I got where the fish were and was soon hauling from the margins and on a zig rig. Some feisty little commons, with a decent bonus mirror, which I managed to get snagged on. It was trailing somebody else's light float gear, which obviously got snapped up previously. In the end around a dozen carp to 12lbs, equally spread from the margins and on the zig rig. Packed up around 7:30pm, with only one other van left in the car park!! The gate was left unlocked again!! Grrrrr!

Windmill

I visited Windmill Lakes for a late afternoon and evening session and opted to fish Field Lake in the swim in the near left corner by the lily pads.
I caught several nice carp to 8lb and a few roach topped by this lovely bream weighing in at 5.5lb. Altogether a great session and lovely venue, I'll be returning to try the other lakes soon.

Hicks Farm 03/09/15

With an autumnal nip in the air, a few spot of rain and overcast, I got to Hicks around 4:30 and got set up in the back corner of the lake. I was just using surface tactics to tempt a few up for a bite. A dozen small carp to 9lbs or so on bread crust and mixers. Packed up around 8pm, as the light was going fast.

Bicknacre

First trip to Bicknacre this season and was rewarded with this lovely Common that weighed in at 18lb 8oz.  Also caught 10 other fish with nothing else above the 10lb mark so although the Bank Holiday weather was typically wet this one certainly brightened my day.

Hick’s Farm 27/08/15

I had a gamble with the weather and managed to get out of work and got to the lake around 3pm. Mild but windy, I snuck into the back reedy corner and fished the margins on pink pop ups. After the wind dropped off and a few small fish, I switched over to a surface rig and shared my cheese roll with a few bigger carp. Finally changed rigs again and landed two good fish on a free-lined fake mixer in the margins. Twelve fish in total, with two doubles to around 15lbs, various pretty mirrors and even a Roach off the top! Packed up at 8pm in a beautiful sunset.

Southminster 22/08/15

The water level on pit 6 is getting very low and around two feet down on the norm. Still, despite the 28 degrees, it didn't put the fish off! I landed a dozen carp to 12lbs, one rod on a zig and the other in the margins. Two doubles, with a bag of the usual 'long 'n' lean' pit 6 carp, a decent F1, which I thought was a Crucian and a nice mirror to finish the session.

Neil Stanley

Pit 3, Southminster 08/08/15

I wasn't expecting the place to be so crowded!! I found the top corner swim on Pit 3 was strangely empty and probably the best end to catch from. Got both rods out around midday and fished until just after 6pm. I landed twelve fish, all commons to around 6lbs. No big 'uns came out, but it was good sport fishing tight to the margins with simple rigs and tactics on such a lovely day.

Neil.

River Wid

Rain at last!!! Although still fishable  - the River Wid has been lacking flow since the start of the season.  Following Friday/Sunday rain the level was spot on today (28th July).  I spent two hours fishing under the blue bridge and caught a few.  Had a BIG perch fall off by the net.  Casters proved the best bait.  I note someone had caught all the big chub (and a tree) prior to me arriving.  Ledgering lob worm being their preferred method of attack.  The kingfishers were busy bombing up and down, so too were the midges.  I discovered the club sign has gone missing (post slightly bent) at the very bottom of our stretch – by Admirals Park .  I will replace it with a temporary one ASAP.

Laundry Lake

Having not fished the venue for roughly a year, I visited Laundry Lake for a late afternoon and evening session on 23rd July 2015.  Arriving at 4.30pm, there were just a few members fishing and plenty of carp rolling on the surface.  I decided to fish with a large waggler and pellets up in the water at various depths and distances and landed 4 nice carp between 12lb and 16lb, as well as having 2 others come off and missing a number of bites.  All of the fish were in top condition so I was very pleased with the results. I packed up at 8.30pm and couldn’t help thinking how lovely and natural the lake and surroundings continue to look.

Southminster, Pit 6. 04/07/15

Arrived in 28c degrees around 12:30pm and was met with a packed complex. As expected, quite a few anglers making the most of the good weather. Got set up on Pit 6 and put out two zigs to the far reed bed. A dozen smallish carp to around 8lbs, with a mix of commons and mirrors. An angler next to me had a 13lb mirror on a float and took a photo for him. Packed up around 9:15pm. I videoed my session, so it will be live on my Youtube page Zomb.

Long Lake, Mountnessing 01/07/15

Evening session on the hottest day of the year. Very spooky carp on the verge of spawning, even the controller put them off. Had to free-line a fake mixer out in the end, then changed to a margin stalker rig, where the Tench came along. Finally landed one scaly mirror, after loosing three and two small Tench around a pound each. Too hot, need a cold shower now!!

Rectory Ponds

Following my recent success I took another trip to the Rectory Ponds at Little Easton on Sunday 21st June.  Again I fished the road side lake with a waggler and small pellets and landed 5 decent carp and a few smaller ones topped by this lovely 12lb mirror.  Many thanks to the nice chap next to me for taking the photo, he had a couple around the same size so a good day’s fishing.

Again the lakes were fairly quiet and there are plenty of fish to be caught.  They are quite difficult to tempt, but well worth the challenge and you cannot beat the beautiful surroundings.

Southminster

I went fishing at Southminster today, Tuesday 23rd June, and caught this very nice Common Carp which weighed 20 pounds exactly. The picture was taken by the bailiff who also witnessed the weighing.

In the same session I had two other Commons which were 14 pounds and roughly 7 pounds plus some really nice Roach and Rudd.

Southminster, Pit6 28/06/15

A very early start for me, got the rods out a 04:45 and then it rained!! Again, Pit 6 was virtually empty, apart from an overnighter in the 'suicide swim'. I fished the other side of the reeds on zigs again. Nine carp landed and three slipped the net. A couple of doubles, but otherwise all the old original stunted stock. Good fun on the zigs, with some single beep takes, to full on churners!! Packed up twelve hours later.

Windmill Lakes

Went to long lake today 16/6/15, As I got to the lake I saw a few cruising carp so I set up my rod and catapulted some dog biscuit to the bushes on the far bank I then cast my rod in, and straight away caught this 18lb common carp. Caught it on dog biscuit with goo coating on it.

Hick's Farm, 11/06/15

Finished work and followed my workmate Nick over to the lake. Nick is a new member and his first trip to a club lake. we got set up in the far shaded corner and had a few small carp out, then moved round, into the sunny side, where we had a few more off the top and out of the margins on luncheon meat. Three families of geese with goslings, so extreme care was needed to avoid these little creatures. we ended up catching a few nice commons and F1's before calling it a day at 9:30pm.

Rectory Ponds

Since the weather forecast was warm and sunny I decided to try the Rectory Ponds at Little Easton last Sunday.  I haven’t fished there for a while and opted to try the first lake by the road, as previously I’ve tended to fish the top lake.  Fishing on the other side to the road using a large waggler and pellets cast across a lake I was able to catch 8 good carp, topped by this lovely mirror of 17.5lb.  I also had 2 other mirrors of 11lb and 8.5lb plus 5 more nice fish of around 5lb, as well as having 3 more good fish come off.

All in all a good day’s sport and I had the lake to myself for most of the day!

Long Lake 04/06/15

A lovely sunny afternoon, with near perfect conditions for the time of year. A busy car park, with six anglers on the main lake and a few on old island lake. Settled into a small swim up the narrow end of the lake and fished my Zomb adjustable zig rig to the opposite bank under some overhanging trees. Lots of carp basking in the sun, so with a bit of floater ground bait, I got them feeding and it wasn't long before my rod hooped round and I was into my first carp: a scrappy low-double common. After re-casting and baiting up again, not a lot happened for a while, so I moved swims and got the zig out again. A few minutes later, a single beep on the alarm and a chunky upper double common was in the net. An hour or so past when a slight twitch on the rod tip produced and a beautiful common touching 20lbs. I also helped land two other good sized carp from another angler and saw a lovely fully scaled mirror landed by the angler to my right. Long lake seems to be fishing well, but they look like they are getting ready to sporn.

Southminster 29/30th May 2015

Took a half day off work and got to Pit 6 for around 3pm for an overnighter. Amazed to find my favourite swim free, from an already packed car park. Got the zigs out and immediately had two fish at once. A manic session took me to 8pm, where I'd landed twelve carp, with three into low doubles and lost a couple at the net. Had a few more after some dinner and reeled in around 11pm, shattered. Rods back out at 7am, lost one, then hooked into another common around 8lbs and a final small mirror. Twenty carp in all by 11am, making a fifty carp haul over three sessions from Pit 6, all on adjustable zig rigs.

Southminster Pit 6 23rd/24th May 2015

Arrived to a fairly busy Southminster late Saturday afternoon, for a quick overnight session. Walked my gear down to Pit 6 were I found three anglers already fishing, so I picked a good sheltered spot near the channel and fished the reeds opposite. Got the zigs out quickly and within ten minutes, both rods were off and I had a brace of two lovely little carp, a common and mirror. I fished into darkness with my Fathom and Zomb zig rigs, which have reflective 'night sights' which makes nights zigging possible. Called it a night around 1am. Rods back out at 7am, where another two carp were landed. Packed up around 11am cream crackered! Sixteen carp in all between 5 - 10lbs, four in the night, all caught on zigs. Really hectic session, but loved every minute of it. Video is on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ZOMBzigbomb

Best regards,
Neil.

Straits Mill

The weather was against me today with the wind and rain beating me up but the fishing was still good. Today I fished the small lake at Straits Mill and I used the top 3 sections of my pole to the left just in front of a little set of Lilly pads and the feeder half way across the narrow part of the lake.
Catches plenty of Rudd to 6oz
Plenty of roach to 11oz
4 x tech to 4lb 1oz
And 20+ bream most around the 2lb 11oz but a couple reached 3lb 9oz all caught on corn with pellet and ground bait and my feed. So for the first time out of 5 trips not only did I manage to update your chalk board with 1 new weight (Bream) but I also managed to put 2 new weights up (Roach & Rudd) but sadly my tench wasn't big enough yet.

Southminster, Pit 6, 15th-16th May 2015

I finished work, loaded the car and arrived around 5:30pm on Friday and made my way over to Pit 6 to my favourite "Rat Swim". Got set up and cast out both my 'Zomb' adjustable zig rigs. I fished from 6pm until 1am, then got some sleep until 7am the next day. Although I had the pit to myself all night, I packed up around 10am. Fourteen carp (twelve commons and two mirrors) all between 6-10lbs, all caught on the zigs. I filmed my session for my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ZOMBzigbomb and the video link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8C_qeTQ2Wo

Nice to see the complex looking so well kept and green. A big thank you to all those who helped with the work parties over Southminster.

Parsonage Farm

11-05-2015
Evening all I finished work early today so I thought I would pop down to Parsonage Farm for a few hours so I arrive around 15:00hrs and start to fish the last swim on the left bank.
There were 5 other anglers fishing too weather was slightly cloudy with a temp around 20'c and I wanted to catch some of these tench I've heard all about so I slip a whole worm on and feed a few pellets about 8-12ft from the swim and 15 mins later bendy rod ? Sweet 4LB 14oz tench PB again(forgot to take photo) and they kept on coming total tench x 20 then it started to get late so I flicked the whip out, still with a worm on about 12-16ft from the swim to my right where I never baited and another bend, roach to 13oz more PB's and I had a few more before I packed up at 20:45.
Picture opposite of the 13oz er
I'm glad i became a member in Jan 2015 now thats 5 new PB's just in BDAC waters.

Laundry Lake

As I am a newish member (0036) i am enjoying fishing these new waters I have broken my carp PB on your rectory ponds with  11.8lb and today I go to laundry lake for the first time and being lazy I decided to pick the first swim and I cast out to the middle of the lake after seeing loads of carp crusing around near the surface.
I decided to use a bottom bait of 2x shaved pop ups in a snowman style and at 16:45 I caught a nice 16lb mirror, wicked I thought, new PB and then Ii started to pack up at 19:00hrs as I was needed at home at 20:00hrs and the same rod same place and same bait fell out of the rod rest and on the other end was another new PB at 21lb common, I am still smiling now.
Thanks guys and tight lines when you are on the bank.
